Information You Enter
Names, phone numbers, and addresses typed into a search box are sent to the outside provider that supplies its results. The site's own servers do not retain a copy of those search terms. Messages sent to us contain only what the sender chooses to include, and we use that information to respond.
Routine Site Logs
Standard hosting logs may record an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and the time of a visit. These details are reviewed in aggregate for site operation and traffic patterns. Basic analytics or advertising measurement may also use cookies or similar tools where enabled.
How We Use Information
Information supports normal site operation, troubleshooting, traffic counts, and page improvements. We do not sell lists of visitors or create individual user profiles.
Outside Links and Search Providers
Wisconsin Residents Directory links to public portals, libraries, archives, and outside search providers. Once you leave for another service, its privacy policy controls information you submit there. The sponsored search results also come from an independent provider and follow its own data practices.
Service Providers and Disclosure
Hosting and support providers process the site's ordinary logs. Where analytics or advertising tools are active, those partners may receive the automatic information described above. We disclose information when valid legal process requires it.
Safeguards and Retention
Pages use an encrypted connection, and routine logs are kept only for the operating needs described here. There are no site accounts, passwords, or personal profiles to maintain.
People Under 18
These reference pages are intended for adults, not children. We do not knowingly collect information from a person under 18. If you believe a minor sent personal details to us, contact us so we can review and remove them.
Your Information Requests
Wisconsin does not have a single comprehensive consumer-data privacy statute identified in the state materials reviewed on September 22, 2026. Wisconsin Stat. §§ 134.97-.98 address certain personal-information disposal and breach-notice duties. Section 19.21 addresses local-government record retention; the open-records provisions in §§ 19.31-19.39 govern access to government records. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Public Records Law page explains that access framework. These laws cover different subjects; neither gives this reference control over a county or state file. For information the site itself may hold, use the Contact page and identify the message or log details. Requests to correct or restrict a government record must go to that record's custodian.
Policy Changes
We will post revisions here. Continued use after an updated version appears indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
